Fav site of the week: Pinterest

Pinterest

This one goes out to all you ladies!  I would be surprised if you haven’t heard of Pinterest (www.pinterest.com) yet because it seems that even my most unsavvy crowd of Internet friends happens to be dying for an invite.

So what is Pinterest?
Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes.

Basically you create a bookmarklet in your browser that allows you to “pin” things to your board.  These can be cute things or stuff you want to remember.  The site actually reminds me of the earlier concepts of Skimlinks where you would create lists.

What is cool about Pinterest?
I think the coolest part is obviously about the content and the community that is being created.  The social sharing features are great and it appears that their initial beta group of people are very active AND have great taste.  The other thing that I find so fascinating about Pinterest is that they appeal very very strongly to a female audience.  Nearly all of my girlfriends are on there sharing stuff and I’m talking about friends that barely use Facebook.  I am amazed by the fact that even my sister in law who rarely plays online asked me for an invite to the site.  This tells me that they have a great adoption rate and their viral is working  amazingly well.

Oh and the site design is pretty gorgeous as well.  Easy to nav and clean.

How do I get an invite?
You can ask me and I’ll try to invite you.  Put a note in the comments or tweet at me.

My pinterest is pretty boring thusfar, but I will work to make it better: http://pinterest.com/srobesky/
