en shallah

The one thing that you hear with regular frequency whilst travelling across Morocco is “en shallah”.  This Arabic saying translates to “God Willing”.  You will literally hear this for anything that requires a response.

Example:  “Excuse me, how long will it take for us to get there?”  Response: “2 hours.  En shallah.”

Which basically feels like a shrug and passing the buck to the almighty about the fact that there are just certain things that are out of our hands.  Like traffic.  Or goats in the road.   It’s actually quite a useful phrase.  I think I might take it up…  En shallah.
