incommunicado

I’ve had a few strange days. My chat communication was down and then my web server went down. Plus a lot of friends are out of town with the August holidays. Without the usual forms of communication and co-communicators, I felt off-kiltered. But at the same time I found it liberating. I spent the days at work focusing on work and felt my brain start to function properly again. It was nice to not have this A.D.D. of constantly checking chats!

This weekend it seems that everyone is still out of town. Even Arlie has left town and I’m in the house alone. This is the first time in years that I’ve been home alone. Alone meaning without even Roley to talk to and keep me company. I think it freaked me out a little bit. Solitude! What the hell was I going to do with myself?

Instead of moping around being billy no mates, I’ve come up with my own little experiment/challenge for myself. I’m going to disconnect myself from my Blackberry, email, phone communications, everything and spend the weekend doing whatever the hell I want to do. And when I say that, I don’t mean sitting around the house watching tv (which would be the easy thing to do). Nope, I have an entire weekend jam packed of activities planned.

The rules of the weekend.

1) No phone communication (unless it is to book something)
2) No email checking
3) Everything done alone (apart from the company of a good book)

We’ll see how it goes. Starting at 8 pm tonight and trying to go till 8 pm Sunday night.

I realise to some people this sounds sort of stupid, but for people that know how many damned times a day I check email / phone / facebook / etc… they will know that this is a challenge for me – especially given the fact that I am at home alone with no one to talk to! 🙂

I’ll report back on Sunday (unless I break before then).
