I was out with Milty the other day talking about a mutual friend and I deemed him “perpetually single”. Milt looked back at me and said, “Yes, sounds like someone else I know”. Doh! I think that he was referring to me! Someone else asked me how I think life would be different if I were married and that question sort of threw me for a loop. I couldn’t really picture it. As you know, I am not a big fan of weddings, this being because I find them an enormous waste of money, a huge headache and, really, the whole point of marriage isn’t about a party for a day. That said, I’m not against the idea of marriage, I just haven’t really pictured myself actually being married because I hardly know what I’m doing next week, let alone for the rest of my life. If I was ever married, my only requirement is that the adventures would continue with someone that can keep pace and have a laugh. As for the relationship bit, I suppose that I am perpetually single apart from a few hiccups (sorry if you were one of these and you read that, I’m sure it was great) through the years. I think that my overly independent spirit and constant moving maybe hasn’t been to kind of that part of my life. I tend to be selfish. There, I said it. I like things my own way. And I can be a bit of a pain in the ass. Everyone can attest to that. Coupled with the fact that I have my own “views” on the workings of relationships – you could call me a romantic realist – well, I guess it takes a pretty strong and stable person to deal with the likes of me. Top all this off with the fact that i’m pretty picky (as you should be) about who I choose to like and that narrows it down to meeting someone who fits the bill about once every decade or so. I guess all of this just means that I will end up being the cat lady and living with Arlie for the rest of my life. Welpers, I’d rather be alone and happy with Roley than miserable like the 50% of people out there that get divorces… God knows, I already have the cat and now they have made an action figure for me (see below)! I’m well on my way…
