Bad parking police

I admit it. I’m a bit of an asshole at times. Today was no exception. Someone who was in their way to yoga tree and parked in the way of my driveway. I left them a special note.

Why I don’t use Lyft, the ride-sharing service

May 24, 2013 by Stephanie Robesky

It is reported that Lyft, the ride-sharing service, has raised another $60million in addition to the $20million previously raised.  Unbelievable!  In case you live in a Hobbit hole, Lyft is the car service that allows anyone to turn their four-door into a taxi cab.  It is like Uber for weirdos.

I have tried Lyft on a few occasions and have decided that the service is just not for me.  First off, it is a weird concept to me that I can get into an unlicensed, untrained driver’s car.  I understand that the taxi cabs in SF are just as random, but there is something disconcerting to me to get into a car of someone that is blasting loud music and the vehicle smells faintly of pot.  Yes, this actually happened to me before.  It was like catching a lift from a stoned 17 year old and it felt completely unprofessional and made me feel unsafe.

The other thing that I don’t like about Lyft is the barrier between professional driver vs random person giving you a ride.  I LIKE the separation of being able to sit in the back of a car and not have to talk to the driver.  With Lyft it feels strange, like the driver wants to be your best friend and wants to chitter chatter with you sitting up front.  I don’t like that.  It feels way to personal and awkward.

The other thing that I wasn’t impressed with were the prices.  My Lyft ended up costing just as much as an UberX would have cost, but was way more socially uncomfortable.

And the final reason that I don’t take Lyft?

I don’t want to fist bump my driver.

I think that sums it up.

Goat = It’s what’s for dinner

I once had a pet goat.  We called him Goatie.  Goatie lived in our yard and ate mulberry leaves.  One day I asked my father where Goatie went.  He replied, “Goatie is goatburgers now”.

Tonight I will pay tribute to Goatie by eating his kin.  Yummy yummy goatie.

A week in the life

May 20, 2013 by Stephanie Robesky

Oscar and Zoe had a very busy week.

They got a butterfly in a jar which was a huge addition to the household that kept them spellbound for about 10 minutes.

Oscar had his weekly bath and hated it just as much as ever.  Zoe somehow managed to get out of bathtime as usual. Since she is a sphynx with some hair she gets a lot less dirty than Oskie gets.

As you can see from the picture, Oskie also discovered a box and hid in it.

This week marked the one year anniversary that Oskie came to live with me. Time certainly flies in kitten land!

What kind of tree is this?

Big questions happening around here on a calm weekend. What type of tree do you think this is?

My guess, ala the internet, is that of a silver maple tree. But I’m wondering if anyone else has an educated guess.

It is funny how one can be so smart about so many things and then when shown something as simple as a tree one falls short. That one which we speak of is I.
