I hate waxing my bikini area…not only is it painful, but it is also a pain in the ass to get yourself to a beauty salon once every 3 weeks (ok I’m Harry and the Hendersons, I guess). I have long given up shaving as an option…those youthful days of razor burn are long past us. So the only other option - apart from stinky ass Nair - seems to be laser treatment.

So today I went for my first visit to the laser therapist…

First she went over a few health things and made me sign a disclaimer. Then she checked out my bush. After lying down on the bed the lady marked the area that was to be lasered and then proceeded to shave me. Then se slathered up my inner thighs with jelly - that I assume makes the electrical current more effective. Yeah yeah, sounds like a porno movie…(trust me - it’s not). After that she covered up my eyes and went to town.

Ohh, the joy of laser. FUCK FUCK FUCK it hurts like hell. The only thing I can describe it as is a seering pain of hundreds of individual flaming sharp pins being stabbed into your skin….

The good news is that it is rather quick. Only took about 20 minutes for the entire treatment.

I was sent home with some creme to rub on the area every night for 10 days. I am not allowed to sun the area. When I left there were little evil red bumps forming from the pain…

This is supposed to take about 6-8 treatements to be permanent (every 20 days or so you have another treatment). The cost is about €120 Euros per visit. Yes - quite expensive. But when you consider that a wax every 3 weeks @ 20 Euros per time x’s your entire life then I guess it isn’t that bad… Plus NO HAIR WILL BE COOL. I’ll be just like Roley (and Sancho).

Who is the best candidate?
1. You need to have dark hair
2. You need to have light skin
3. You need to have a high threshold for pain

Take a little test here

How does it work?
To know if you are a good candidate for laser hair removal, you first have to understand how laser hair removal technology works. Don’t worry; just the basic concepts are reviewed here. You won’t have to take the laser apart or put it back together.

Just think back to 4th grade science and the color spectrum. Dark colors attract light energy and hold it, while light colors reflect light energy. Remember wearing that black tee shirt to the beach and regretting it? Simple, that’s what is at play here.

Let’s look at MOI, our perfect candidate. Stephy is from Japanese/Irish descent; she has very fair skin, black hair and brown eyes (and a cute little butt but that is irrelevent here).

The laser beam used in the laser hair removal device is directed at the hair follicles on Stephanie’s bikini area. The dark pigments in the follicle absorb the laser light energy. Her white skin does not absorb the light energy; in fact, energy dissipates. The follicle absorbs more and more energy; the follicle dies and can no longer grow hair.

Not everyone has the combination of skin or complexion color and hair color as Moi (take Fiona for example). The differences or combination types have an effect on the outcome of the treatment.

why do we want to know this? would it be possible to establish a “girl-things” section in your website so we can choose to opt out of reading the yukkie bits? I hadn’t even eaten yet!!!
