post Category: boring life post postFebruary 16, 2004

friday evening went to dinner with fee, tim and their two houseguests whose names escape me now. yes, i have a horrible memory for names. much worse than anyone can imagine. had dinner at la flauta magica - that is magically across the alley from la fianna. oh wonderous joys of cosmopolitans post dinner served up by lovely little irish lads. had a good time winding fiona up about being irish and then calling her hitler. she wasn’t so thrilled! post fianna we all headed off to ottozutz vip. ended the evening rather late.

saturday had a little lunch with giles at paco meralgo, our tapas bar. drank some cava and ate yummy food. somehow ended up in a fancy dress shop with a beefeaters hat on, a sadam hussein mask, and a tiara. don’t ask. it was fun nevertheless. came home around 6 and napped for a few before heading to v-day dinner with alex the german. we ate at drugstore which was actually quite nice given the bizarre location. then drove around to mas-i-mas and decided not to go in. so, yes, we went to ottozutz vip - AGAIN.

had a great night compiling a special surprise for greg and mike. laughing at the old man who is a permanent fixture. trying to phone “the brothers” to come and celebrate lolo and lucas’ wedding that was happening on sunday. and generally being asses.

yesterday - slept all day and watch gone with the wind. now i have a sore throat and it is raining. blah!

spanish class resumes manana with fee and wednesday head off to madrid for the day for meetings. oh joy.

Ok I HAVE to add a comment here. I am Irish. My problem is that I do not understand why some Americans say they are irish when really only their great great grandfathers wife’s cousin older brother was born there. And only maybe! Even when you ask politely - despite the fact that there is no trace of irishness in accent or features - (us irish are polite you see) “oh where are you from”? the vast majority of the time you hear the answer “well i am not sure” or worse again “london”. One of the first times I met Steph she said “oh i am irish” - RIGHT!! It was the red hair and freckles that gave her away :-) So this night all I said was why do americans say “i am irish” instead of saying “i am part irish” (which stephy really is - a McCormack granny i believe from somewhere unknown)?? And then suddenly I am branded HITLER!! Ah i have a hard life :-))
