sorry that there hasn’t been much of an update in the last month. been busy holidaying here in europe. went to ibiza for 5 days of sunshine, fun and opening parties. returned and then promptly headed off on a ROAD TRIP to Austria with Albi. on the way there passed through france, italy, germany, and arrived several days later in salzburg for one drunken evening in the rain. last weekend went off to see our old pal arlie and eat some nobu in good old londres.

UPDATED VERSION: 16 July 2003

i suppose i will go into more detail of my little adventures for the sake of recording some of the truth.

went out to ibiza for 5 days in the sunshine with albi. basically did nothing but veg out for the entire trip. it was opening parties at pacha so we utilised our guestlist priviledges every evening and headed over there for v&t’s. also managed one evening of insanity that involved naked driving, sunsets and actually lying in dirt to make dirt angels…don’t worry I won’t torture you anymore here with that evening. i learned to play backgammon. i am not very good. but it has lead to an interesting yahoo games addiction.

came back from the isle rested and relaxed on san juan day. therefore, much more partying was going on here in barcelona. greg-o was back in town, so we made a nice little steaky / mashedy din din then went out for the evening. i thought i was too tired to deal. turns out that i wasn’t. ended up at danzatoria all evening till the breaka breaka dawn. as if walking outside in the daylight wasn’t enough to shatter my head, we thought we would add icing on the cake by heading to the beach for fun filled techno parties and beach beer vendors. ok, i was a bit tired at the end of this week.

a few days later, jumped in the old beater benzo and headed off in the blistering summer heat (with no a/c) on a 1500 km journey across 5 countries with the final destination being Austria. first day was sunday and also the end of the harley davidson convention in barcelona. the largest harley gathering in all of europe and every biker was leaving town that day heading north at the same time that we did. i thought i was hot in the car, imagine these folks with their leather chaps cruising down the highway… we managed to end up in cannes, france around 5:00. i was thinking of all the nice little cafe’s that i had eaten the previous year, but also failed to note that the time was about the most inconvenient time to attempt dining in europe. duh. so we drove around, drank the world’s most expensive oj (jus d orange) and then decided that we didn’t like the french so we needed to leave the country immediately. but on the way out of town stopped at a “quicky burger” to get a le hamburger. it was the nastiest thing ever. and what an insult to be minutes away from fantastic cuisine, yet dine on such rubbish.

rushed our asses out of france and into italy by nightfall. along the coast with quite beautiful views of tons of monasteries and castles. i was getting hungry for some pasta and in need of a shower after having spent the day being drenched with sweat - plus the ipod had used its entire battery at this point so i grabbed a map to find the nicest sounding town to stop in for the evening. ahhh, alessandria. had such a lovely little ring to it. drove for 30 minutes and arrived in it. my greeting to lovely alessandria was to be biten by a gigantic, malaria infested mosquito. it was almost like being given the key to the city and a red carpet…

then i spotted the sign - the hotel marengo ****. mmmn, 4 stars sounded pretty good to me so we drove around until we found our 4 star abode for the evening. stepped out of el coche and into the luxury stylings of the hotel marengo. great night getting drunk on wine in the empty restaurant and viewing the artwork of “the battle of marengo” that was cleverly mounted on cardboard hanging over the bed.

the next morning, we woke up and jumped into the car and headed off towards austria. still unsure of what our next destination would be, we decided it wise to get out of the heat and jump into the swimming pool at albi’s aunt and uncles home in lana, italy. the swimming pool was so nice that we decided we might as well stay the evening there. everyone went out to play a round of golf on their course (see below). i wore a stupid hat and acted as cheerleader since my golfing skills are better kept in the closet. for dinner we all headed up the mountain to have some wiener schnitzel, but ended up with sausages and cheese in the end.

where i didn’t play golf

the next day we headed off to our final destination of salzburg arriving in only 2 hours from lana. thankfully for us, the day was raining so we missed our sweating session. unfortunately for me, the day was raining and that pretty much ruined my historic sightseeing journey in salzburg. went out that evening to eat ribs and drink a bit. needless to say, i almost missed my 8 am flight due to my head feeling like it was going to explode.

well, that’s it. the entire adventure captured for everyone to read over and over again. how exciting.
